This macro creates a mouse-activated Escape button on the toolbar.

AutoCAD Technician Michael Klinck provides us with a little macro that keeps his hands on the mouse so he can keep working.

"If pressing the Esc button is intended to clear grips, which is what I typically use it for, what I have is a button which I click to get back to the Command line:

^C^Cxg

It saves me from having to press anything on the keyboard, and keeps me utilizing the mouse. The button is located on my own custom toolbar, with many others."

Notes from Cadalyst Tip Patrol: Custom commands are meant to save time. This one can do so by keeping you focused on the mouse. Your hands don't leave the mouse to reach for the keyboard; just flick your wrist and click. Keep working, don't stop! Your boss will be pleased.

What does "XG" stand for? Is that a shortcut from ACAD.PGP?

Instead of pressing ESC to clear grips, hold the right mouse button down for a couple of seconds and the grips will go away. Now you only have to use ESC to cancel a command.

I use the right-click hold method a lot to clear grips. Just be careful, you can slightly move object at the same time. Also depending on your right click shortcut menus, I have a deselect all option.

I have a 5 button mouse and I have the esc key set up for my thumb button. I love it.

I find my LEFT HAND very useful for reaching the keyboard with letting go of my Mouse ;>
