For all commercial architecture users that need to include life safety plans in their drawing sets, area plans are a wonderful tool for tagging areas to use in a schedule. 

Building compartments can be outlined for an area, then tagged with an area tag using different parameters (either custom or out of the box) to then schedule and include on your sheet.

We use an area plan instead of a standard floor plan view to schedule smoke compartments, suites, and building areas.  It makes reporting the values so much easier!
