Render section planes of 3D models in visual styles different from those used on the model.

Frequent tipster Leonid Nemirovsky explains how to render section planes of AutoCAD 3D models in visual styles different from those used on the model.

"When you cut off part of your model with the SectionPlane command and you want to render your model with the Realistic or Conceptual visual style, but want to render your section in a different style, just follow these steps. For creating the images, make the Plain Transparency setting 100 (in the Change Property palette). But if you want to perform high-resolution rendering, do the following: Set your ortho on, and then move the section object vertically up or down away from your model. Now you can render. In this case, the section object can be jagged or straight."

Notes from Cadalyst Tip Reviewer Brian Benton: Rendering anything with one or more 3D models in it can be tricky. This tip suggests moving the objects far enough apart so that you won’t see them in other views. Then you can set up multiple viewports in paper space and set them all to different visual styles for your renderings.
