"Have you ever noticed that when you use the Open command and navigate to a particular folder on your network, then use the Files of Type pull-down menu to select the DWT format, the folder automatically redirects itself to the AutoCAD default folder where DWT files are kept? It's a pain to navigate from there all the way back to where you just were.
 
"Most power users will say 'Keep all of your DWT files in the default folder,' or 'Repath the location of your custom DWT files under Options," etc. — and for the most part, they would be right. But sometimes, if not most times, you will have one stray DWT file which may have been supplied to a sub-consultant that was saved with the other project files, or it may just be a one-off situation.
 
"To get back to the folder you were just in, use the Back button: it's the blue arrow on the toolbar (next to the Network pull-down menu) on the Open dialog box. When you click, it will take you back to where you were in the previous folder, showing the desired DWT file."




Notes from Cadalyst Tip Patrol: Great find. In fact, there are several buttons that can help you browse to your folder. The Back button will return you to your previous folder. If you went to one folder, then a second, then a third, then clicked Back, you would go back one folder with each click. Very handy. You can also press Alt+1 instead of clicking the icon. If you go to a subfolder or you are in a subfolder, there is also the Up One Level button. This will take you into your current folder's parent folder. You can keep pressing this button until you are as high as you can get in the folder structure. Also, you can press Alt+2 instead of clicking Up One Level.
