You may see marked improvements by disabling certain features such as the Aero themes and other items listed in the Autodesk document.

Is your Windows 7 AutoCAD performance a bit sluggish? Windows 7 Aero desktop themes may look pretty but that beauty comes at the expense of peak computer performance.

Try this:

  • Right-click on your Windows 7 desktop and select Personalize.
  • In the Personalization dialog box select the Windows 7 Basic (non-Aero) Theme.

Windows 7 Aero themes may make AutoCAD work more slowly.

On computers with minimal video performance, you may find your AutoCAD a bit more responsive.

Autodesk also suggests this Windows setting in its Slow Cursor troubleshooting article (Item 6).

Notes from Cadalyst tip reviewer R.K. McSwain: Depending on the capabilities of your computer, you may very well see marked improvements by disabling certain features such as the Aero themes and other items listed in the Autodesk Slow Cursor troubleshooting article (Item 6). Make one change at a time and then test. If you make many changes at once and it improves performance, you won't necessariy know which change made the difference.

You will need to be aware that disabling Aero will cause errors using Recap and bubble view
