In AutoCAD we can get to many additional tools by simply right-clicking on an object, or by just right-clicking.

Cadalyst CAD Tips reviewer Brian Benton offers a tip on setting up right-click functionality in AutoCAD and its verticals.

“When working in AutoCAD, we can get to many additional tools by simply right-clicking on an object, or by just right-clicking alone. To set these controls, open the Options menu (type Options on the Command line). Go to the User Preferences tab and click the Right-click Customization button.

“Here you have several options to apply to your right-click functionality. The image below shows how I have my settings.

“The time-sensitive right-click setting provides a best-of-both-worlds scenario: It sets the right-click functionality to function as the Enter key, while a right-click and hold (for 250 milliseconds) will bring up a shortcut menu. This is handy because this menu provides quick access to several additional options. I have the edit mode set to give a shortcut menu as well. That way, while I have an object selected, I can easily get options from my shortcut menu to help me manipulate that object. Of course you can set right-click to always function as either the Enter key or as a shortcut menu. The choice is yours, and that’s one of the best features of AutoCAD. We can easily set it up to run the way we want it to.”
