Tipster Russell Koenig shares how his company uses the Autodesk AutoCAD WS mobile app for field work.
"The AutoCAD WS app for mobile devices is a great way to view and mark up a drawing when you're outside the office. We use it on an iPad to make field review comments on survey basemaps. If you make a block out of your review drawing before sending it to the mobile device, you won’t accidentally delete any original objects. Simply select and delete the block when you’re finished, and you'll be left with just the review comments, ready to be pasted into the original basemap."
Notes from Cadalyst Tip Reviewer Brian Benton: AutoCAD WS is a great app, which comes in two versions: mobile and browser-based. Both have similar functionality, although there are more tools available for the latter. AutoCAD (and its verticals) can integrate with AutoCAD WS: AutoCAD 2012 has it built-in, and Autodesk offers a download for the 2010 and 2011 versions. |
