This tip helps you save a little time scrolling through layers in AutoCAD.

In the Layers Properties dialog box, click New Property Filter. Name the new filter with the xref name and a short description, such as: 11950-06 Survey (Easements).

Under the Filter Definition / Name, key in the exact xref name, then the pipe or vertical bar, and then the desired layer prefixes or text within the layer name.

In my example, it would be 11950-06_Survey|Easements*, or if located within a layer name, 11950-06_Survey|*Easements*

This helps to save a little time when scrolling through layers.

Notes from Cadalyst tip reviewer R.K. McSwain: There are several existing tips similar in nature to this one, but this tip from Timothy shows you exactly how to set up a layer property filter specifically for xref layers. See also tips 4359, 4306, and 3794.
