"I have two tips that help my efficiency at work. I often have to find areas of odd shaped lots and properties which aren't defined by a continuous polyline. Instead of creating a temporary polyline along all the boundary edges (especially a pain if it includes arcs) and using the area command, I hatch the area and list the properties. The area is listed. Also I found if the corners don't meet, set the HPGAPTOL to be greater than the gap. The hatch by pick points works great, even if you have to pick several points within the area." NOTES FROM CADALYST TIP PATROL: Hatches can give you the area of a shape. Perhaps you don't want to have a hatched area in your drawing and the shape is difficult to close. You can try creating a boundary or a region. Type on the command line BOUNDARY or REGION to invoke either command. Once these shapes are created you can get the area from them just like a polygon or hatch. |
