Mick Noble sent us an AutoCAD tip that answers the question, "Ever wondered what drawings contained what xrefs?" Wonder no more.
Using Design Center you can search drives or specific folders for drawings containing a particular file name (xref). Type 'adcenter' to activate the Design Center dialog box. Click the 'Search' button (it is a blue magnifying glass icon). 'Look for' (a pulldown menu) an Xref. 'In' (folder selection) browse to required folder. 'Search for the name' (field) put in file name. Hit the 'Search Now' button. 'Answer' a list will appear with the names of all drawing containing the named Xref. Tip 1. It can also be used to search for Blocks, Dimstyles, Drawings, Hatch Patterns, Layers, Layouts, Linetypes, etc. etc. Tip. 2 Minimize your search options to a specific folder to speed up the process.
Notes from Cadalyst Tip Patrol: The Design Center in AutoCAD is a very useful manager. You can easily transfer, copy or insert styles (and other objects) from one AutoCAD file to another. The search ability in the Design Center is one of those commands or tools in AutoCAD that many people don't know about but wish they did. Great tip. Tested in AutoCAD 2009 |
