Use Tool Palettes for Hatches

For frequently used hatches, the ability to set the scale, rotation, pattern, color, etc., makes this tip a no-brainer.

In AutoCAD I created a series of flooring and cladding hatch patterns library and two arrow blocks pointing at the start points (and directions) of applying. As seen, the hatch patterns are usual and common, but after setting the perfect scales they were dragged into the respective toolbar. That will introduce them at the right scale and predefined layer. Using combinations of horizontal and vertical, you get the maximum flexibility possible to create any x-y combinations.

As usual for me, I didn't quite grasp the whole of the tip, but I did manage to simulate it. I created a custom command with the CUI, then wrote a macro to 1. get the current layer with GL (lisp routine), 2. set the layer to red with SRED (lisp routine), 3. then the command to do the hatch. For some reason my syntax is off and I can't get the last of the macro to work where I use my SPV command (lisp routine) to set the layer back to the previous layer stored in GL. But the hatch commands work, one for steel, one iron, one for brass, etc. Here is the syntax in the custom command: ^C^Cgl;sred;-hatch;p;ANSI32;0.75;0;;;spv;

Hi David, there's really no need for Macros, Using the tool Palette, you can right click at a feature's properties to select the layer for the hatch pattern without no need for changing nothing at the Layer Status. When dragged to the tool palette, if the hatch pattern resides in a specific layer the tool palette mechanism will quote the right layer in the 1st place by itself
