You can view single objects in a 3D model easily.

Leonid Nemirovsky sent a tip on viewing single objects in a 3D model easily.
If you have a complicated 3D model with many solid pieces and you need to see one or two small solid parts of the model, all you need to do is highlight the needed part with grips, initiate ORBIT, or hold the Shift key and wheel button on your mouse and you can view only the details you just highlighted with grips.

NOTES FROM CADALYST TIP PATROL:  Many of you may have noticed this by accident; that’s how I found it.  If you selected an object(s) and start the 3D orbit command, all other objects will not be visible.  This helps the video processor run more smoothly.  A side effect is using it to view a single (or small group) object in 3D without turning layers on/off.  You can also take a closer look at an object that shares its layers with other objects.  Cool tip, Leonid. Tested in AutoCAD 2009

As well as the handy tip above it can also be useful in cluttered drawings to temporarily hide objects OR temporarily isolate objects. This means that you can not only view objects on their own but also WORK on them. Here's a link to a free routine that will do this for you: http://www.3dcadmax.com/FreeAutoHide.htm

Tommy Holder sent some follow-up for this tip: IT WORKS REAL NICE WITH ANY SINGLE OBJECT OR GROUPS SO THOSE REFERENCES (XREF'S) CAN BE SINGLED OUT AS WELL. REAL NICE WHEN YOU WANT A QUICK VIEW OF ONE OR MORE XREF'S. USED WITH THE WHEEL MOUSE YOU CAN QUICKLY "PAN" AND "ZOOM". NOT EVERYONE USES 3D SO A MENTION OF HOW OT GET BACK TO WHERE YOU WERE BEFORE ORBIT WAS EXECUTED MAY BE NEEDED. THERE ARE MANY WAYS TO DO THIS BUT TO GET BACK TO A WORLD UCS JUST TYPE "PLAN" enter enter. OR JUST TYPE "U" then "enter" TO UNDO ORBIT.
