Use the Fast Select tool to select objects that touch your chosen object.

Frequent tipster Leonid Nemirovsky sends us a tip to help you select objects more quickly using the Fast Select Express Tool in AutoCAD.

"First set FSMode to on by typing FSMode at the Command prompt. Then, if you have a bunch of intersecting or touching objects, type FS at the Command prompt, select one of the objects, and all touching or intersecting objects will be selected (with grips)."

Notes from Cadalyst Tip Patrol: Fast Select is an Express Tool that creates a selection set of objects that touch the selected object. When turned off, FS will only select the objects that are touching the selected object. When turned on, FS will select all objects touching the selected objects, as well as all objects touching those objects that are displayed on the screen.

Sorry, but I couldn't make this happen. I drew a circle then an intersecting square. I then drew another square that appeared to intersect the first but was actually in a plane 2" below the other two objects. Typed FS and selected the circle...all three objects were highlighted. The only way I could get only the intersecting plans to highlight was to change the view to "Front" and make my selection.

Well, I don't know what to say - IT DOES WORK FOR ME, all objects at the same Z=0. I did not test it in 3D.
