Do you ever need to outline a word to generate linework for a sign — or anything else, for that matter? A colleague of tipster Michael Viscetto suggested the express tool TxtExp command to accomplish this task. What this does is explode the text or mtext objects into polyline objects. Both SHX fonts and TrueType fonts can be exploded. Closed polylines can be extruded into 3D solids, or further exploded into line segments.
Notes from Cadalyst tip reviewer R.K. McSwain: As Michael points out, exploding text is useful when text needs to be drawn with vectors for exporting to other formats or when 3D objects are required. You can also explode text to avoid any chance of a missing font in situations where it is critical that the text not be modified. |
