TRIM_EXTEND.LSP lets you enter a distance that the finished edit should be away from the boundary object.

Next is a utility from Jay Miller (Tip #1927) that enhances AutoCAD's Trim and Extend commands. Instead of trimming and extending to an absolute entity object, you can enter the distance that you want the finished edit to be from the boundary object. It has some problems with enclosed regions, but it works well for normal edits.
