Use the Windows Copy command within AutoCAD.

Tipster Kent Elrod shows us an add-on produced by Autodesk Labs that helps users manage the Windows Clipboard while using AutoCAD.

"Clipboard Manager for AutoCAD from Autodesk Labs is a great add-on that makes Copy and Clip much easier, especially between drawings. After the capture you can give it a name. You can have multiple captures showing in the Clipboard Manager; simply drag and drop from the list into any drawing and it will show a preview of each capture. Readers should also check out the Labs — if they haven't already — to learn about other plug-ins and programs in the works."

Notes from Cadalyst Tip Patrol: There are many Windows-based functions that AutoCAD can utilize, including the Clipboard (where copied objects go). This isn't the Copy command that is native to AutoCAD, it is the Copy command that is native to Windows. Copying objects in Windows places a copy into the Clipboard. Typically the clipboard only holds one object at a time, but the Clipboard Manager from the Labs can contain and manage multiple copies. This tool can help when transferring linework from one file to another quickly. It also can be used to copy or insert a set of objects into a drawing multiple times.

Autodesk Labs is a great resource for new tools that can complete great functions. Keep an eye on the Labs web site — many new tools or features that are incorporated into AutoCAD (and other Autodesk software) start off in Autodesk Labs.
