Fix this problem by making a discrepancy between your grading and contour elevations.

Tipster Mike Porter has a question for AutoCAD Civil 3D users:

"Ever have one of those ‘grade to elevation’ gradings and the surface contour at the toe is all irregular or jagged? This shows up if your grading elevation and a contour elevation are the same. Edit the grading to 0.001 lower than your intended elevation, and the contours will show a flat surface as intended."

Notes from Cadalyst tip reviewer R.K. McSwain: Sometimes AutoCAD — and Civil 3D, in this case — just do strange things and need a little tweak. This is a good example of such as case and how to apply a workaround.

Depending on how it's behaving, sometimes you may need to grade 0.001 higher instead of lower than your intended elevation.
