Edit AutoCAD block attribute text objects without opening the attribute editor window.

Cadalyst tip reviewer Brian Benton shares a tip that will help you edit AutoCAD block attribute text objects without opening the attribute editor window.

"We all have to edit title blocks or other text objects that are in a block. If there are many lines of text, it can be difficult to find the exact one you need to change. In theory, if you double-click a block with attributes, the attribute editor will open. If you double-click on the attribute text that you want to edit, it should open the window with that text at the ready. Sometimes that doesn’t seem to work properly, or I don’t want to deal with the editor at all. If you hold down the Ctrl key while double-clicking the attribute, a text editor will open right where the text is, allowing you to quickly edit that particular attribute. Press Enter when finished, and you are back. It’s quick and efficient."

Using AMEP 2013, Ctrl+double clicking does not bring up an editor but Ctrl+single click selects the attribute for easy editing within the properties box.

The easiest and fastest way I found to deal with this is to use the Properties palette. I always keep this palette on one side of the screen. Whenever there is a need to change one or several attributes (text only and not the fields or text properties), I just select the block, and modify its contest in the palette. It always works.
